Testimonial from a founder member.
In September of 1985 a letter dropped through the door asking if anyone wanted to start a choir in Staxton. Sue Parker had
just moved into the village and having a young family wanted to keep her musical talents and expertise to the forefront of
her life.
Seven of us turned up in the music room of Sue's house of mixed voices and ages. A few weeks after we started we were
asked to sing at a village wedding of which Sue brought in family and friends making up about fifteen singers.
Over the weeks and months numbers were now increasing so we started rehearsals in the church; Sue playing and
conducting at the same time. (We had some very very cold nights).
We have raised a lot of money for various charities and organisations in the area enjoying singing various styles of music
whilst also travelling to France and performing at the famous Albert Hall in London. I have to say this was the highlight of
my thirty years in this wonderful choir and we have been involved with some wonderful concerts in local villages bringing
music and fun to many, many people.
Over the last thirty years we have been as many as eighty members and every where in between; I have met some fabulous
people from all walks of life who together enjoy music and singing.
Today we are a four part choir with thirty five members where we perform our concerts in various venues in and around
Scarborough. Our repertoire is an eclectic mix and styles from musicals to traditional pieces and The Beatles and Bach alike.
